i spent six and a half hours in the rain Tuesday to make a concert happen that night. Yesterday I wrangled a whole mess of reports which were pretty far out there, both in terms of deadline, and in terms of complexity. I’m doing pretty well hopping from log to log as they come down the flow.

Today, I hope to actually get some of the work I am supposed to have been doing all week done.

The good news is I finally seem to have a working refrigerator at home. 370$-odd in groceries later, but I have one. And ice trays. Ice is key.

You can never have too much ice.

I bet the mammoth would disagree:

it is often so easy to only see the ocean from the bow of your own boat. what seems like a big wave from your helm is realy the wake of another ship passing, out beyond your peripheral vision. what seems like calm waters is actually the surging of a storm, about to take you from beneath, with swells that come up out of nowhere. what seem like impossibly angry skies drift away into moonlight starscape, and ideal winds. sometimes change brings providence, sometimes it brings shipwreck. i once told someone that sucess is not about the size of your mast, but the skill of your helmsman. stepping outside of myself for a bit last night, i realized that was not just lame fortune cookie advice, but something i really should be aware of more often myself.

last night’s laughter and libation was thuroughly infused with change – good change, bad change – life chage. i have some unbelieveable friends who i have been throgh some amazing adventures with. through them i have met long-lost friends or freinds to be, perfect strangers, and enemies old and new. everyone puts themself at the center of the compass rose. really? we are all a part of everyone else’s charts. i’m proud to be on as many as i am, even if i am only a blip of an archipelago in some. the first point on this whole roll of charts is calculated off a star not even in the sky anymore – i wished he was there last night, and, in some ways, felt like he was.

and , i’m a better person for knowing you, and through you, the unending streams of people that have been in and out of my life,and whose life i have been in and out of. if the course of your travels thusfar are any indication of future destiantions, then you are defintiely heading in the right direction. sweet water, bright tomorrows, and peace.

as i was walking home last night, it occured to me: the way i judge the success of a party is largely based on criteria set going to your gatherings. your pondhopping leaves a high bar to be met on the island you are departing from. i have a feeling that it will be a long time before anyone is able to glue together the same feelings of new and strange with familiarity and openess that i have always experienced at your festivities.

that is not going to stop me from trying.

ok kids. i have been holding off on picking up an xbox 360 since it came out. life has been too hectic of late to really enjoy video games too much, but i am contemplating changing around my entertainment schedule to accommodate more console time. this is due largely to the fact that fucking bioshock finally came out, after four goddamned years of waiting.

first i said i was waiting for the elite, then i said that i would not get a 360 until there was a game i could not play anywhere else. i assumed that game would be spore. based on the reviews of bioshock, i was totally wrong.

so, i need five reasons NOT to get a 360 this weekend. because that is what my brain wants me to do.

they should totally raise the terror level, and put water on the top 10 of homeland security’s terrorist list. second avenue looked like a zombie movie – a wet zombie movie.

L and I are no more, so if you are hosting some sorta social something, don’t assume 1=2. I ended things last night, in a permanent way, because I am an insensitive bastard, who is selfishly trying to protect his self interests at someone else’s expense. I hate hurting people, and she is not the only one I hurt. I wish I could figure out a way to see it differently. I couldn’t fight anymore for something I stopped believing in. All the levels that affect haven’t come to light entirely yet.

My week has been packed with death, distrust, damage, damage control, laughter, drunkenness, tears, family, food, 1373 miles of driving, delayed flights, screaming children, stifling heat, near strip-searches at the hands of the TSA, and almost no sleep. I can’t even say we buried my uncle, because he was hastily cremated and interred in a wall in a church in the middle of nowhere. His affairs, and my continuing place in their resolution are not something I will write about in depth here, but are something which will continue to plague me in the coming weeks. My only hope is that I can figure out a way to crack his e-mail password.

Work is a cesspool. I missed so much, and there is so much to do, and I am having a very hard time engaging the gears in a necessary manner. I feel I’m that scene in Les Miserables where Jean Valjean has just fought a battle, dodged arrest and death, and has to carry the near-dead body of his daughter’s lover through the sewers of Paris. There is a very graphic line about him holding the injured party over his head while the sewer-slime crept over his lips towards his nose. That is where I am at right now.

I just hope I can dodge diphtheria until I can get things back on track.

a week ago i thought i was tired? i didn’t know the meaning of tired, or embers.
gotta get some zz’s so i can get to work tomorrow. if anything blew up around these parts since thursday last, let me know, cuz i don’t know, and i won’t have the time to find out anytime soon.
