\nWhat good is liberty and justice,
\nbeneath a bleak and hopeless sky?<\/p>\n
Foreign winds were unappealing,
\nand domestic weather unpolite.
\nWhat foolishness led the soldiery
\ninto this backwards fight?<\/p>\n
An age ago, the fighters thought,
\ntheir ranks would have been hailed;
\npennants paraded, artillery cheered…
\nWhere had their orders failed?<\/p>\n
When General Greed and Corporal Interest
\ntook control of all the battles,
\nthese patriots, these soldiers proud,
\nbecame little more than chattle.<\/p>\n
So it went, for many years;
\n“The Good Fight” always fought.
\nBut those who decided “good” and “bad”,
\nhad morals which could be bought.<\/p>\n
The leaders’ hands were crimson-soiled,
\ntheir agendas dripped with blood.
\nWho cared of the life of innocents,
\nin the face of all the spoils?<\/p>\n
Eventually, the general said,
\nto his henchmen, all crooked louts:
\n“Our way should be the only way,
\nlets stamp all the others out.”<\/p>\n
Then the end came crashing down;
\naway burned all the soldiers’ sorrows.
\nBefore their glances made it up,
\ntheir barracks became their barrows.<\/p>\n
The day was won! Or was it lost?
\nBy zealots, kings, and madmen…
\nFor along with all the others,
\nthe leaders also found their ends.<\/p>\n
On bleakest plains of glass and ash
\nhell-winds sent devils out a-dance.
\nBut in the wake of their stirring gait,
\nseed, sun, and sky found chance.<\/p>\n
New hope was born, sweet rains returned,
\nthe end was not as it seemed.
\nFor what are endings, but new beginnings,
\nroaring on in tomorrows yet undreamed?<\/p>\n
